Linen Napkins

The smallest change to the everyday table.

Fold one beside a breakfast plate or lay a pair out for supper. These stone-washed linen napkins add soft texture without making a meal feel formal. Sold in sets of two, in natural mélange, dark grey, ocean mint and woodrose, they are easy to bring into the tableware you already use.

Notes from the Kitchen Table

A Good Habit, Folded in Two

A cloth napkin makes sense at the table on an ordinary evening, not only when guests are expected. Keep a few pairs with the plates so they are easy to reach for. The stone-washed texture looks at home beside a quick pasta supper or a weekend breakfast, and a simple fold takes seconds. Choose a colour you enjoy seeing often; that matters more than a perfectly matched dinner service.

Notes from the Kitchen Table

Give Each Place a Little Definition

Use the napkin to mark out each setting while keeping the middle of the table free for food. Place it beside the plate or partly beneath the cutlery, with the same fold repeated around the table. If you want another layer, add a linen runner through the centre. A pale runner and deeper napkins create enough contrast without needing a long line of ornaments between the diners.

The Byard’s choosing guide

Choosing Your Linen Napkins

Napkins are an easy place to begin with table linen. Work out the number of seats, choose a shade that sits comfortably with your plates, and decide whether you prefer a loose fold or a pressed finish.

Back to the collection
How many napkins come in each set?

The current stone-washed linen napkins are supplied in sets of two. For a table of six, choose three sets; for eight, choose four. If you regularly host different numbers, adding an extra pair gives you some flexibility without needing a completely separate occasion set.

Do linen napkins need ironing?

These napkins have a relaxed stone-washed finish, so a softly creased fold is part of their appearance. The product instructions allow a warm iron if you prefer a neater edge. Fold them consistently at each place and the table will still look tidy without a sharp pressed finish.

Which napkin colour works with patterned plates?

Choose a single colour already present in the pattern, or let natural mélange provide a quieter border. Dark grey gives a stronger contrast against pale crockery. Keep the fold simple so the napkin supports the plate rather than adding another competing detail to the setting.
