A neatly folded throw reveals only part of its story. Before choosing, picture it across your lap, over the back of a sofa or spanning the foot of the bed. The dimensions and fabric matter more than the fold in the photograph. A smaller throw may be ideal for an armchair; a wider style gives a different kind of coverage. Start with that use, then choose the colour and texture you want to see every day.

There is no need to drape a throw over every seat. One folded where it is easy to reach can be enough, particularly when the room already has printed cushions or patterned upholstery. Not necessarily. Fibre composition, fabric weight and construction all affect how a throw feels in use. Texture is a visual and tactile detail, not a reliable warmth rating on its own. Read the product information and choose around the season and the extra coverage you want.
A throw can cover a particular area, but it is not a fitted protector and may move during use. Check its size, washability and suitability for your household. If protection from spills is the priority, do not assume a decorative textile provides a waterproof barrier.
