Linen Tablecloths

Set the mood before the plates arrive.

A linen tablecloth changes a room with very little effort. Our stone-washed cloths bring a soft drape and a tactile surface in natural mélange, dark grey, ocean mint and woodrose. Find the size that suits your table, then let the fabric, the crockery and the food make the setting.

Notes from the Kitchen Table

The Colour Beneath Everything Else

The cloth is the largest area of colour on a dressed table, so choose it with the room in mind. Natural mélange leaves plenty of room for patterned plates; dark grey gives pale ceramics a clear edge. Ocean mint feels fresh alongside clear glass, while woodrose sits warmly beside timber. Look at your crockery and chairs together before choosing. The cloth should make those familiar pieces look more at home.

Make Room for the Meal

A generous drape can look beautiful, but the table still needs to work. Check how the fabric falls beside chair seats, particularly when the table is extended. Keep the central arrangement low and leave a clear area for serving dishes. Finish with linen napkins in the same colour for a quiet setting, or choose a contrasting shade when you want each place to stand out a little more.

The Byard’s choosing guide

Finding the Right Tablecloth Fit

The right tablecloth starts with a tape measure. Think about the shape of the table, the room around the chairs and how far you want the linen to fall before choosing the colour and listed size.

How do I work out the tablecloth size I need?

Measure the tabletop’s length and width, then add twice your preferred drop to each measurement. For example, a 20cm drop adds 40cm to the total length and 40cm to the width. Compare those figures with the dimensions of the selected cloth, including any table extensions.

Do all the colours come in the same size?

Do not assume they do. The current colour listings include different dimensions, so check the size shown on the particular tablecloth before adding it to your basket. If your required measurements are not listed, ask about options before ordering rather than choosing by colour alone.

Can I use a linen tablecloth for everyday meals?

Yes, a softly creased linen cloth suits an everyday table as well as a more dressed setting. The current cloths specify gentle machine washing; follow the care instructions supplied with yours. Choose a practical drop that gives seated diners room to move comfortably around the table.
