Description
Description
A proper alternative to standard metal tealights, these handmade terracotta tealight candles are designed for everyday use, indoors and out.
Each candle is set in a small, smooth clay pot and poured using a blended beeswax, giving a steady, reliable burn with a softer, more natural look than aluminium cups. The terracotta holds heat well and adds a warm, grounded feel whether used on a table, in lanterns, or outside in the garden.
Available in three variants to suit different uses:
- Lavender & Vanilla (Original Scent) – a light, calming fragrance suited to indoor use
- Unscented – clean and neutral, ideal for dining tables and events
- Citronella – designed for outdoor use, particularly in warmer months
Sold as a boxed set of ten, they’re a practical choice for regular use, gatherings, or as a simple, well-made gift.

Caring for your terracotta tealights
Safety & Use FAQ
Read the safety label supplied with your candles before lighting. Always stay nearby while they burn, and put them out before leaving the room or going to sleep.
Should the candle stay in its terracotta pot?
Yes. Burn it in the original pot, on a stable, level, heat-resistant surface. The clay does not replace the need for heat protection underneath. Keep the candle away from children and pets, and let both the wax and pot cool completely before handling or moving it.
How far apart should I place the tealights?
Leave a gap of at least 10 cm between lit tealights, following Dalit’s care guidance. Keep them clear of curtains, dried flowers, greenery, paper decorations and anything else that could catch fire.
Does the room need ventilation?
Yes. Choose a room with good ventilation, but keep the flame away from draughts, fans and vents. Do not position it directly beside an open window where moving air could disturb the flame.
Can I use a candle holder or lantern?
Leave the candle in its terracotta pot. Use an additional holder only if its instructions allow this type and size of candle, with a secure fit, sufficient ventilation and clearance around the flame. Avoid tightly enclosed containers that trap heat. The same checks apply outdoors, where the candle also needs protection from wind.
What if wax appears to have soaked into the clay?
Terracotta is porous, which is another reason to protect the surface beneath it. Do not assume that unexpected wax loss or leakage is harmless. If wax leaks through the pot, the clay cracks or the candle burns unusually, extinguish it, leave it to cool and contact us before using it again. Do not add wax or try to relight an empty pot.
How should I prepare the wick and first burn?
When the candle is cold, trim the wick to 1 cm, as Dalit recommends, and remove the clippings. Keep matches and other debris out of the wax. On the first burn, allow the surface wax to melt evenly where possible, but always extinguish the candle if you need to leave it.
How do I put it out safely?
Use a candle snuffer and check that the flame is fully out. Never pour water or another liquid onto the candle. Leave the pot in place until it has cooled completely; do not touch it to test how hot it is.
