How Personalisation Works at Byard’s Boutique
Personalising a product should be enjoyable, not complicated. Our online personalisation tool lets you add names, messages, photographs and other details while seeing how your finished design will look.
From personalised wrapping paper to engraved glass jars, slate gifts and wooden serving boards, everything is personalised by us in-house in Derbyshire and posted directly to you.
1. Choose Your Product Options
Before opening the personalisation tool, select any product variations shown on the page. Depending on the product, these might include:
- Wrapping paper size and paper weight
- Serving board size or handle direction
- Glass jar lid colour
- Product colour or finish
- Other available variations
Make sure these options are correct before beginning your design, as they determine the version of the product you are personalising.
2. Click “Make Something Special – Start Personalising”
Once you have selected your product options, click the Make Something Special – Start Personalising button on the product page.
This opens the personalisation window, where you can create your design by working through the available steps from top to bottom.
3. Choose a Design Template
Some products include several templates or layouts from which to choose. Select the template you would like to use before adding your personal details.
The available choices will depend on the product. You may be able to select a particular layout, typeface, image style or engraving design.
4. Add Your Text
Complete the text boxes shown in the personalisation window. These may ask for:
- A name or names
- A date
- A short message
- Initials
- Wording for a sign, label or engraved design
Different text boxes may control different parts of the design, so follow the labels carefully. Check all names, dates and spellings before adding the finished product to your basket.
5. Upload Your Photographs or Images
Products that allow image personalisation will include an upload option.
For some wrapping paper designs, the person’s face will be cut out automatically after the photograph has been uploaded. You can then resize and reposition it within the design until it sits correctly.
For the best result, choose a photograph that:
- Shows one person clearly
- Is taken from the front
- Has good, even lighting
- Shows the complete face
- Is sharp and in focus
- Does not include sunglasses or objects covering the face
Using the original photograph rather than a screenshot or an image downloaded from social media will normally produce a clearer result.
How Images Work for Engraved and Etched Products
When an image is uploaded for engraving or etching onto slate, glass, wood or another suitable material, it cannot be reproduced in the same way as a full-colour printed photograph.
Instead, the image is converted into lines and tonal areas suitable for the engraving or etching process. Clear images, simple logos and photographs with good contrast usually give the strongest results.
Very small details, faint lettering or low-quality images may not reproduce clearly. If you are unsure whether your image is suitable, please contact us before ordering.
6. Check Your Design
Take a moment to review the complete design before adding it to your basket. In particular, check:
- Names and spellings
- Dates and messages
- Photograph placement
- Text position
- Selected template
- Product size, colour and other variations
Personalised products are made using the details supplied through the personalisation tool, so it is important to check everything carefully.
7. Add Your Personalised Product to Your Basket
When you are happy with the design, you can add the personalised product to your basket directly from the personalisation window.
Your choices and design information will be attached to the product so that we receive the details needed to make your order.
Personalised by Us in Derbyshire
We complete our personalisation in-house in Derbyshire rather than sending orders to a separate personalisation company.
This allows us to oversee the process ourselves, from receiving your design to personalising the product and packing it for delivery. Once finished, your order is posted directly to you.
