Our Makers & Materials

Our Makers & Materials | Byard’s Boutique

There is more than one way for a piece to become part of Byard’s. Some start as an idea in our Derbyshire studio. Others are discoveries: a useful design, an appealing material or a detail that makes an everyday object better.

Linen, wooden boards, drawing tools, glass and ceramics on a sunlit worktable.

Original work from Derbyshire.

Our in-house designs give the boutique a voice of its own. Illustrated wrapping paper begins with our artwork and is printed in our Derbyshire studio. Alongside it, our own ranges and personalisation work let us explore timber, engraving and small details that make a gift feel particular to its recipient.

The process varies by product. Designing, making, printing, finishing and personalising are different stages, and a piece may involve more than one place or pair of hands. We aim to explain our part clearly in each product’s description.

Chosen from other makers and suppliers.

A boutique also needs room for other people’s work. We select homeware, lighting, gifts and wellbeing products to sit alongside our own designs, looking at materials, finish and everyday usefulness.

We ask what a piece adds: a practical shape, a texture we want to live with, a small improvement to a familiar routine. Being sourced rather than made by us does not make it an afterthought; it is another part of how the collection comes together.

A collection you can feel.

Linen and cotton bring woven texture. Wood offers grain, warmth and variation. Glass catches the light; stone and slate bring weight and a different kind of surface. Leather appears in selected pieces, while waxes and essential oils feature in parts of our fragrance and wellbeing collections.

We choose materials for the particular job. A name on a label is a starting point: construction, finish, ingredients where relevant, and the intended use still need a closer look.

Details worth knowing before you buy.

Check dimensions as well as photographs. Read the material and care information, and look for any variation described in the listing. With natural materials, grain, colour and markings can differ between pieces.

If you need to know whether a particular item suits a purpose, get in touch. A clear answer before you order is more useful than an assumption made from a photograph.

Made and chosen for the life ahead.

What matters is what happens after a piece reaches your home: the board brought out for lunch, the linen used through the week, the gift that becomes a familiar favourite. That is where good design earns its place.
